About the Role

In this role you will closely work with natural catastrophe (Nat Cat) specialists as well as sustainability risk managers.

Your main responsibilities will include:

- Supporting our Nat Cat specialists in climate change scenario analysis to establish business impact, relevant for Property Nat Cat decisions today
- Further developing and improving the technical foundation of Swiss Re's physical climate risk solutions
- Addressing regulatory requests regarding physical climate risk
- Being the central point of contact for climate change-related topics and working in collaboration with different divisions across the company to develop and coordinate our messaging on climate change
- Enhancing and managing our extensive knowledge base on climate change and contributing to the implementation of physical climate risk in our models

About the Team

The Cat Perils team comprises 50+ dedicated engineers and scientists in wide-ranging subject areas. We create value for Swiss Re by driving confident Nat Cat decisions. With our proprietary modelling technology for natural catastrophe perils, we bring latest science to underwriting decision-making, working closely with peers in re/insurance underwriting, and we support our business in all matters related to natural catastrophe risk.

About You

We are looking for someone who is curious and flexible in approaching problems, showing a willingness to learn and take on responsibility. You have a high degree of initiative, and demonstrate a strong interest in interdisciplinary work. As a strong communicator, you can explain complex problems with clarity and effectiveness.

Technical skills and education:

- M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in natural sciences, computational sciences, or a related technical field
- In-depth knowledge of climate-change-related topics and extreme weather events in particular
- Modelling experience with climate models (i.e. CMIP5/6 GCMs, RCMs, etc.), ensemble analysis, uncertainty quantification, and climate model downscaling
- Ability to work with large, multi-dimensional data (e.g. netCDF, Xarray, Dask, GRIB, TIFF files)
- Strong computer programming skills (e.g. MATLAB, Python)
- Familiarity with sustainable finance initiatives relevant to physical climate risk is a plus (e.g. TCFD, EU Taxonomy, NGFS)
- Excellent verbal and written English
