JOB PURPOSE
The Library Assistant supports the Library Manager with daily library tasks. Responsibilities include processing new materials, checking books in and out and promoting and developing the library to deliver an efficient service to students and staff.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Be welcoming of students and teachers to the library; answer questions from library users
Have a good level of computer skills to support students/carry out administrative tasks
Help library users to find materials to meet their needs; help users to become proficient in using online resources
Perform circulation processes; including book issues, renewals and returns using the Library Management System (Access-it); support cataloguing processes of new materials to the library collection
Shelve stock and keep the library tidy; be physically able to bend low and reach high to shelve books, carry/lift boxes of books
Assist with the general upkeep and maintenance of the library stock including repairs, weeding, withdrawing stock, shelving and fine-tidying
Contribute to the selection and promotion of new books and online resources
Give administration support with the Accelerated Reader programme
Supervise students taking part in the library CAS activity. Ensure records are kept of students’ progress (in support of their D of E Service)
Plan book fairs and library events programmes in collaboration with the Library Manager
Support the Library Manager with the supervision of students using the library
Take part in the school induction programme for new students
Develop and maintain links with other libraries and relevant organisations (SLA, ECIS, SGIS, CIS, CILIP)
Undertake any other task which may be reasonably required by the Library Manager to assist in the smooth running of the library
Understand and implement all school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding children and young people
Understand the School’s Guiding Principles and uphold the ethos of the School at all times
