We are seeking a curious and passionate designer to join our Running footwear design team at the ON HQ in Zurich. This role offers the amazing opportunity to be involved in the entire product creation process, from initial concept until signing-off the final product. To excel in this role you need a strong background in Computational Design with an expertise in product design, parametric & algorithmic design strategies and advanced computational modeling. As a key member of our FTW design team, you will collaborate closely with our innovation and development teams to evolve and design integrative computational processes for the generation, evaluation and fabrication of performance-oriented models, with a particular focus on digital/robotic fabrication, streamline the product design processes, and ultimately design innovative products. Your mission will be to leverage your expertise in 2D and 3D software design tools to drive ground-breaking product design, while inspiring and implementing computational design tools across the Running product range.
Your mission
Collaborate with the RnD team to develop innovative running footwear concepts that align with ON’s brand identity and performance standards.
Use your expertise of computational design tools to help design ground-breaking product
Utilize parametric, algorithmic and generative modeling techniques to create and optimize 3D models of footwear designs
Stay updated on the latest advancements in computational design tools and CNC machining technologies to enhance the footwear design process
Conduct research and gather insights on market trends, materials, and technologies to inform your design decisions.
Create detailed sketches, 2D & 3D renderings and physical mockups to communicate and validate your design ideas effectively.
Work closely with the development, engineering and strategy teams to ensure your designs meet the performance and consumer needs.
Contribute to the overall design team’s creative process by bringing fresh and disruptive ideas and perspectives to your colleagues
Maintain awareness of industry & design trends and competitor products to stay ahead in the market.
Present design concepts and progress updates to internal stakeholders and management.
Your story
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design or related field.
Proven experience in product design (3+ years), preferably in the running or sportswear industry.
You have an innovative mind with a strong drive to pushing the boundaries of footwear design
You have 3+ years of experience using 2D and 3D design software with 2+ years experience in computational design or advanced CAD modeling.
You have strong sketching and expert skills in Rhino, Grasshopper, Adobe creative Suite as well as skills in Maya, Zbrush, or similar platforms. Design and programming with Python or C# is a plus
Understanding of industrial manufacturing processes
Hands-on approach in building physical mockups and proof-of-concept prototypes.
Excellent communication and presentation skills. You are fluent in English both written and spoken
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, creative environment within a cross-functional product creation team.
A passion for running and an understanding of runner’s needs and preferences is definitively a plus.
